The Field Guide to Somnolence is a cross-disciplinary project to address the issue of insomnia through extensive application of the graphic design discipline. The main focus of the project is the EEG biofeedback protocol, an experimental approach to solving the problem of insomnia by improving the treatment method known as EEG biofeedback.

The Neurosky Mindset is a consumer brainwave reader, it tracks the relaxation level of the user and transmit via bluetooth the data to the protocol. The protocol is an application that is written in Processing, it generates a flock that reacts accordingly to the relaxation level, the higher the relaxation value, the more cohesive the flock becomes. When relaxation level drops, the flock separates and splits up.

The whole idea of EEG biofeedback is to reduce the hyperarousal that is often the cause of insomnia. The process enables the patient to learn how to align their brain activity within the designated parameters for Stage N1 of the sleep architecture. Stage N1 facilitates the simulation of theta brain waves, which is generated during the transitory stage between sleep and wake. The procedure is not a temporal solution to insomnia, instead it is similar to training sessions. There has been a preconceived notion that EEG biofeedback is a ‘sleeping machine’. However, this is an inaccurate description of what the procedure is. What the treatment aims to do is to exercise the waking and sleeping mechanisms in the body.

Saturday Sessions is a series of posters created for the 2012 D&AD Student Awards. The brief was to showcase and promote the monthly lineup for Ministry of Sound's Saturday Sessions. Saturday Sessions is the pioneering brand that has cemented Saturday nights at Ministry of Sound for the past decade.

The direction was to capture the phosphorescence and smoky imagery of clubbing night life and translate that into lettering. The result is a series of 3 A2 posters for the months of September, October and November.

A photoshoot to promote Momoteapot's new range of dresses. This shoot was done at the beautiful and pristine Punggol End on a cloudy Saturday. Chic summer dresses juxtaposed against a flora background and color treated to evoke a strong sense of melancholia.

Hath No Man is the graduating short film of Linus Koh. I was engaged by Linus to create a lettering for the title of his film and to design his promotional poster. I worked with the wonderful photograph that was captured by Tom Seah, a good friend of mine, while he was on the set of Linus' shoot.

The quote comes from John 15:13, 'Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends'. The lettering is inspired by the cracked and faded wording found on a memorial at one of the sites of the shoot.

The mixtape series is a personal project of mine, a marriage of the things close to my heart: music and graphics. I made playlists of songs I would listen to on my daily commute and created artworks for each playlist. The project started in 2008 with its first version and ended with 17 versions in 2011.

Documenting my month long holiday in Australia, I shot my entire trip on a Cosina CT-1A with a 50mm, using various films, both negatives and slides.

I met up with old friends studying there, whose hospitality I am exceptionally grateful for. I made some new friends along the way, and Australia definitely will remain as one of my fondest memory.
